I abhor the premise and excessive hype of Black Friday, so it seemed like a fine opportunity to follow the former Milwaukee & Northern (M&N) main line from Green Bay northward. I enjoy trying to find an Escanaba & Lake Superior (E&LS) train running along those historic rails from time to time. It has been a while since I have been able to make the attempt. I ambled all the way to Amberg without seeing any sign of a train. I sat next to the tracks for a while, contemplating whether or not to continue to Pembine before heading for home. Almost resigned to the idea that I was going to be skunked, I was thrilled to hear the horn of train approaching Amberg from Pembine. I am grateful for the opportunity to capture video and photographs of the E&LS at Amberg, Wausaukee, and Crivitz. Some of those photographs are the basis of a new page for our web site: Reminders of the Milwaukee & Northern Main Line – Green Bay to the Menominee River. I was hoping to continue the chase toward Green Bay from Crivitz, but the crew had work to do before they could continue on their way, and the sun was getting closer and closer to the horizon.
