The “Colossus” Whale Exhibit has been added as a sub-page of the Appleton Branch page of our web site. It describes a specially built railroad freight car, transporting an embalmed finback whale, which was spotted near the Appleton depot from 4 to 7 May of 1931. This was a rare opportunity for Fox Cities residents to see a whale and learn about the whaling industry.
As you can see, the exhibit was originally intended to occur at the Soo Line Depot. It was changed to the MILW depot for some reason.
